In 1901, the Florida East Coast Railway was extended to Miami, which brought new opportunities for settlement and development. Ojus was one of the areas that saw an increase in population and development, with the first post office being established in 1903. The name "Ojus" is believed to have been derived from the Seminole word "Haju," meaning "sweet."
During the 1920s, Ojus experienced a real estate boom, with many new developments being built to cater to the growing population. The area was known for its beautiful beaches, which attracted tourists from all over the country. However, the Great Depression in the 1930s brought an end to the boom, and many of the developments were abandoned.
In the post-World War II era, Ojus saw renewed growth, with new developments and subdivisions being built to accommodate the influx of new residents. Today, Ojus is a bustling community with a diverse population and a thriving economy.
